The Lakota Language Consortium and the Lakota Dakota Nakota community honored achievement in language learning at the First Annual Lakota Language School Awards. The awards presentation took place at the 2009 Lakota Dakota Nakota Language Summit, November 12-14, in Rapid City, SD.
Schools were recognized for achievement in two categories: Best Average (pre & post tests) and Most Improved. Here are the winners.
Wakpala‐Smee School
C‐EB School
Standing Rock Jr. High School
Tiospaye Topa School
C‐EB Schools
Schools that placed at the top of each category received plaques and other schools deserving of honorable mention received a certificate of achievement. Recognizing hard work and achievement is an important part of language revitalization.
With the close of the second full year of pre-and post-testing, schools now have two years of data that they can use to help identify obstacles in the way of building an optimal environment for learning. Many schools made improvements and those honored in November are currently leading the way towards language proficiency. Keep up the good work and let’s see who is honored next year!
