Dictionary project update ~ Artist calling-out

The New Lakota-Dakota Dictionary continues to make excellent progress, but it will be launched at the end of 2007, instead of fall as planned. The Lakota-English segment of the 20,000-word dictionary is now complete, along with the penultimate reviews and edits of that section. The English-to-Lakota part of the dictionary is currently in full review and editing phase.

Between June and August 2007, LLC will be undertaking an extensive review of the dictionary across the Lakota and Dakota speech communities. The goal of this review phase will be to ensure that entries are accurately represented in terms of usage and phonology, and that the terms are also in current use in communities, reflecting these details in the dictionary. This effort will also be particularly important for ensuring that Santee/Sisseton and Yankton/Yanktonai dialects are correctly represented, and fully included in the compendium. Those interested in participating in the review phase of the dictionary are welcome to email us at dictionary@lakhota.org.

While we may not judge a book by its cover, we welcome submissions of cover artwork for the New Lakota-Dakota Dictionary. Email us about it at dictionary@lakhota.org
