JAN F. ULLRICH |
Jan
Ullrich is considered one of the most accomplished
applied linguists working with Lakota today.
He is a fluent speaker of Lakota, Linguistic Director
at LLC, and a founding member of the Board of
Directors. Mr. Ullrich received his MS
in Education and Linguistics from the University
of Ostrava. His particular areas of specialization
are Siouan linguistics, language pedagogy, and
language revitalization.
From 1998 to 2001 Mr. Ullrich was Project Associate
for the Lakota and Dakota Language Documentation
Project at the Department of Linguistics at the
University of Colorado, Boulder. He has
also been and an instructor of English as a second
language, language teaching methodology instructor,
a Research Assistant, and an exhibit curator at
various academic institutions.
Mr. Ullrich has been undertaking linguistic fieldwork on the Indian Reservations of South Dakota since 1992. He has amassed one of the largest collections of Lakota texts in the world and has published numerous books and articles on Lakota language and mythology.
